Accessibility
Everyone should be able to bid, sell and pay here, whatever they use to get around the web. If something on this site gets in your way, tell us and a person will fix it.
What We Aim For
Every page is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard used for the Americans with Disabilities Act. That means every page should work with a keyboard alone, with a screen reader, zoomed in to twice the size, and without relying on colour to say anything.
How We Check
Before each change goes live, every page of the site is run through an automatic accessibility checker as every kind of user: a visitor, a bidder, auction house staff and an owner. New pages are also tried with the keyboard alone. We do not use an "accessibility overlay" widget; we fix the pages themselves.
What We Know Is Not Perfect Yet
- Lot descriptions and photos are written by each auction house. A photo is described to a screen reader by its lot's title; a description is only as clear as the house made it.
- A few forms check that you are not a robot. The check is usually invisible, but if it stops you, email us and we will help.
- The iPhone apps are newer than the website and have had less testing with VoiceOver.
Tell Us About a Problem
Use the form below, signed in or not, or email [email protected]. We reply within two business days. If you are stuck in the middle of something, such as a bid on a lot that is closing or a payment, say so and we will help you finish it another way while we fix the page.
